LUCINDA PRESSEY SMITH 8.224a, daughter of David Smith 7.152a and Harriet Leora (Van Dervalgan) Smith, was born at Sugar Grove, Ill., June 2, 1871. At age 42, she married Charles Cotta, at Sugar Grove, Oct. 11, 1913. She died at Rockford, Ill, Feb 3, 1958. There were no children to this union. He was born at Sugar Grove, Carol County, Ill., Aug. 26, 1871, and this was his second marriage. He was the inventor of the Cotta Transmission used in trucks. He became paralyzed on July 31, 1940, and died at Rockford, Ill., July 26, 1945, aged 74 years. He had married first, Edith Burt, who died Feb. 14, 1912. Their two daughters, not connected to the Tryon line, were:
Winifred Beatrice Cotta, born Rockford, Ill., June 22, 1903, and died Sept. 16, 1954, unmarried, and
Edith Genevieve Cotta, born June 29, 1908, who married Philip Taxon, and they adopted two girls:
Rosalind Jane (called Linda) Taxon, born Mar. 22, 1942, and
Martha Lynne Taxon, born May 28, 1944.

HALLAM CHAMPLIN SMITH 8.224d, third son of David Smith 7.152a and Harriet Leora (Van Dervalgan) Smith, was born at Sugar Grove, Ill., June 18, 1912. He married Rose M. Kane, at Chicago, Ill., Sept. 28, 1912. He graduated from Armour Institute in Chermical Engineering, and worked for Peoples Gas Light & Coke Co., for several years, then for Linde Air Products Co., and still later for Union Carbide Co. He was general manager of all Linde plants until he retired about a year before his death, which occurred on Nov. 6, 1954, at the age of 68 years. There were two sons:

ALICE JULIA WATKINS 8.227a, daughter of Julia (Smith) Watkins 7.152d and Flavel T. Watkins, was born at Batavia, Ill., Jan. 24, 1884. Her mother died when she was just 4 days old. She married Edward Jobbins, July 14, 1909. He was born in Chicago, Ill., May 29, 1886, and died at Brownsville, N.Y., Apr. 21, 1951, and was buried at Hartsdale, N.Y. They had two children:

FRED EUGENE TRYON 8.228d, second son of Chester Pratt Tryon 7.166a and Hannah Elvira (Lewis) Tryon, was born at Sidney, N.Y., Oct. 8, 1876. He married Elizabeth Rooney, Nov. 28, 1912. She was born Sept. 12, 1876. His early years were spent as a musician in a circus, while studying medicine in Kansas City. He later was a physician in Baraboo, Wis., for 40 years. He served as County Coroner of Sauk County for many years, and as Baraboo health officer, as well as State medical examiner. He died at Baraboo, Aug. ---, 1953, aged 77 years, leaving a widow and several nieces and nephews.

JAMES HARVEY TRYON 8.242b, second son of Jesse Tryon 7.180a and Eunice Mariah (Graham) Tryon, was born at Vernon Center, Oneida County, N.Y., Feb. 18, 1822, and was baptized into the Vernon Presbyterian Church, Apr. 30, 1826, by Rev. John Barton. James Harvey married Louisa Hills, daughter of Edmund Hills and Lois (Holmes) Hills, Feb. 8, 1848. She was born at Ridgeville, Madison County, N.Y., Apr. 8, 1822, and died at Willoughby, Ohio, Jan. 30, 1897, aged 75 years. He died at Willoughby on Aug. 18, 1906, aged 84 years. Both are buried on Waite Hill, near Willoughby. Seven children are recorded:

HOSMER GRAHAM TRYON 8.242c, third son of Jesse Tryon 7.180a and Eunice Mariah (Graham) Tryon, was born at Vernon Center, N.Y., Oct. 27, 1825, and was baptized into the Vernon Presbyterian Church, Apr. 30, 1826, by Rev. John Barton. Hosmer moved to Willoughby, Ohio, and on Sept. 5, 1850, married Irene Boltwood Dexter, daughter of Horace Dexter and Eunice C. (Boltwood) Dexter. She was born at East Windsor, Conn., Dec. 6, 1830, and died at Willoughby, Sept. 13, 1888, at the age of 58 years. Hosmer died at Willoughby, Apr. 29, 1889, aged 64 years. No mention of any children.

LUTHER MONROE TRYON 8.242d, fourth son of Jesse Tryon 7.180a and Eunice Mariah (Graham) Tryon, was born at Vernon Center, N.Y., July 4, 1828, and died at the same place, Aug. 6, 1829, just one year old. Burial in Twitchel Cemetery, next to his great grandparents, Thomas Tryon 5.75a and Sarah (Curtiss) Tryon.

ERNEST LESLIE TRYON 8.415a, first son of Jared Lemuel Tryon 7.256e and Susan Mary (Kellogg) Tryon, was born at Glenwood, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1876. He married Mary "Mamie" Eliza Deming, daughter of John Murray Deming and Elizabeth Ida (Dustin) Deming, and sister of John Ernest Deming (see Emma L. 8.415c), on Sept. 15, 1901. She was born at Wethersfield, Ill., Feb. 17, 1882. He was an electrical engineer and a band leader, and died at Broken Bow, Nebr., Mar. 8, 1920, aged 44 years, and was buried in the Glenwood Cemetery. She received training as a nurse at College View, Lincoln, Nebr. They lived at Southbend, Nebr., Concord, Nebr., Tishomingo, Okla., Birch Tree, Mo., Carson City, Iowa, Glenwood, Iowa, and Broken Bow, Nebr. After his death, she moved from Broken Bow, Nebr., to Logan, and then to Arnold, Nebr., where she was employed as a nurse at the Arnold Hospital. In 1923, she took over the management of the hospital, and served in that capacity for 25 years. She made her home in Durango, Colo., for 17 years, was a member of the Adventist Church, and died at Durango, Oct. 8, 1968, at the age of 86 years. Internment at Arnold, Nebr. They had five children:

He married Lela Etta Drain, at Sioux City, Iowa, Aug. 30, 1911 She was a daughter of Wiliam Wadkin Drain and Sarah Elizabeth (Hoback) Drain, and was born at Sloan, Iowa, Oct. 27, 1886. Edward was a farmer at Concord, Nebr., and died at Dixon, Nebr., Dec. 10, 1933, aged 52 years. There were four children:

She died at Arnold, Nebr., Mar. 9, 1957, aged 74 years, and was buried at Broken Bow, Nebr. They had two children:

JOHN ADDISON TRYON 8.440d, second son of John Wesley Tryon 7.270c and Abbie Jane (Brown) Tryon, was born at East Hampton, Conn., in 1866. He followed his father's footsteps and became a sea captain on the Minnehaha, which sailed from Philadelphia and was lost in the storm of Jan. 20-22, 1890, off the coast of New Jersey. All hands perished, including his uncle, Addison E. Tryon 7.270h, who was mate, and his cousin, a son of Josephine (Tryon) Young 7.270j. John Addison was 24 years old, and was not married.

DAVID ALLEN TRYON 8.440e, third son of John Wesley Tryon 7.270c and Abbie Jane (Brown) Tryon, was born at East Hampton, Conn., Dec. 20, 1868. He married first, Ethel Emeline Rich, daughter of Denison E. Rich and Catherine (White) Rich, July 11, 1890. She died in childbirth, Feb. 27, 1891, aged 17 years and 8 months. The child was:
